Molly Kidd Studio – Platform Migration & Custom Shopify Development

In collaboration with The Next Race Studio, a US-based creative agency, we developed the new Molly Kidd Studio website on Shopify. The project began as a Squarespace build, but as the designs evolved, it became clear that the platform’s limitations would prevent the client’s creative vision from being fully realised. Our team at Devignify Studio stepped in to handle the Shopify migration and front-end development, ensuring complete design fidelity and a seamless user experience.

The Challenge

The client initially planned to launch their website on Squarespace due to its simplicity and built-in templates. However, as The Next Race Studio finalised the design, several technical and creative limitations emerged:

  • Restricted layout flexibility made it impossible to match the approved designs.

  • Limited CMS control hindered content management and scalability.

  • Advanced design features such as custom filtering, dropdown menus, and dynamic content blocks were not feasible.

Recognising these constraints, The Next Race Studio collaborated with us to migrate the build to Shopify, where we could bring their creative vision to life with greater flexibility and performance.

The Solution

Our role was to translate the Figma designs provided by The Next Race Studio into a fully custom Shopify theme, built from the ground up using Online Store 2.0 principles. Every component was engineered for scalability, modularity, and pixel-perfect precision.

Key Deliverables
  • Custom Header & Navigation System:
Built dynamic dropdown menus for both the Portfolio and Shop sections, ensuring intuitive navigation.

  • Product Listing & Filtering (PLP):
Implemented a fully customisable filtering system matching the original design and optimised for speed.

  • Product Detail Pages (PDP):
Created modular templates for media galleries, product forms, and dynamic content blocks.

  • Blog & Social Integration:
Built a bespoke blog layout with a “Read More” feature and integrated Flodesk for newsletter sign-ups.

  • Advanced Contact Form:
Developed a powerful custom form builder to replace Shopify’s default form logic.

  • Responsive Design Implementation:
Ensured seamless performance and visual consistency across all devices.

Technical Highlights
  • Developed using Shopify’s Online Store 2.0 architecture for flexible content management.

  • Created reusable custom sections including rich text, hero banners, and multiple-column layouts.

  • Integrated Flodesk for email marketing and improved conversion tracking.

  • Optimised image assets and theme performance for fast loading and SEO readiness.

  • Collaborated closely with The Next Race Studio to ensure 100% design fidelity and consistency with their creative direction.

The Results

This project exemplifies our ability to transform design constraints into digital opportunities. What began as a limited Squarespace build evolved into a fully custom Shopify website—crafted with precision, scalability, and performance in mind. Our focus was on delivering a flawless translation of the creative design while empowering the client with complete control over their content and future growth.

  • Achieved complete design fidelity with the original concept.

  • Delivered a scalable, content-driven Shopify build ready for future e-commerce expansion.

  • Significantly improved mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and overall user experience.

  • Empowered the client with full flexibility to manage and update their site without developer intervention.

Conclusion

The Molly Kidd Studio project is a testament to how thoughtful collaboration between creative and technical teams can overcome platform limitations. By transitioning from Squarespace to Shopify, we helped The Next Race Studio deliver a visually stunning and functionally robust website that empowers their client to grow with confidence.
