Kinect is a very different kind of project.

Rather than developing a Shopify storefront for a single brand, we helped build a platform designed to become part of the infrastructure behind other Shopify businesses.

Kinect's ambition is to bring AI-powered commerce tools together into one platform — giving merchants access to technology that can help them make their stores smarter, more automated and more effective.

The challenge

Building a Shopify app is fundamentally different from building a Shopify theme.

The product needs to work across multiple merchant stores, integrate with Shopify's ecosystem and provide a reliable foundation that can support an expanding range of features.

Kinect was also entering a rapidly evolving space.

AI technology was developing quickly, meaning the platform needed an architecture capable of evolving alongside it rather than being locked into a single feature or use case.

Building from the beginning

We became involved with Kinect during the early stages of the product.

Our team helped build a significant proportion of the initial infrastructure behind the platform, creating the technical foundation required for merchants to connect their Shopify stores and interact with Kinect's wider ecosystem.

That included work across the Shopify application itself as well as the underlying systems supporting the product.

Turning ideas into features

As Kinect developed, our role expanded beyond the original infrastructure.

We've continued helping the team build new product functionality, integrations and features as the platform has grown.

Working closely with the Kinect team means we're often involved beyond simply receiving a finished specification.

We help turn product ideas into working technical solutions, think through implementation challenges and build functionality capable of operating within real Shopify environments.

More than a Shopify app
